Vacation Rental Activities

The Marais, the marsh, was the height of fashion in the 17th century. The salons of important intellectuals thrived here in magnificent private hotels built for them by the leading architects of the day. But the court packed off to Versailles and the area fell from fashion. Luckily, the entire quartier was considered not worth bothering about for a couple of hundred years. In the mid-sixties, it was declared the first historic preservation district in Paris when it was rediscovered in its almost pre-Revolutionary state. Mansions were converted to museums; galleries and boutiques followed. Bars, restaurants and hip tea salons joined the rush. Real estate prices soared. Today, the Marais is the largest historic district in all France; but it is also up-to-the-minute fascinating. On a quiet street (rue des Hospitalières-St. Gervais) tucked between the rue des Rosiers (historic Jewish quarter) and the lively rue Vieille du Temple (great shopping and restaurants abound). 3 street markets open daily and 2 weekly open air fresh food markets which are within walking distance of the apartment make cooking a joy! Centrally-situated. Only a 5 minute walk either South to the historic Ile St. Louis, North to the Picasso Museum, West to Beaubourg/Les Halles or East to the beautiful, historic Place des Vosges. Very conveniently located as it is on the No. 1 métro line which crosses most of Paris in 15 minutes. 10 minute walk to the RER train which goes to Versailles and CDG airport. Most of historic Paris is within a 20 minute radius on foot.
