La Magie du Temps pavilion is an independent apartment located in the right wing of the Chateau de Leran. It can accommodate ten people. It has a fortified private patio, 4 Ha of forest and gardens with a swimming pool and tennis courts. The Castle is surrounded by a magnificent park in the heart of the Cathar countryside. Situated on the banks of a river nearby Montbel lake with splendid views of the Pyrenees mountains. It is an ideal place to appreciate the charming magic of different eras. The authenticity and serenity of the past blended with the comfort and conveniences of the present. It is located in Ariege County between Mirepoix and Lavelanet, 60 Km south of Carcassone and 100 Km from Toulouse.
The Castle: The castle of Léran dates back to the 12th century. This historical building has a perpetual charm. The tribute tower is built on stone and the two towers from the 13th century, with their 2 m. thick walls, are what remain of the original feudal castle. In the 17th century, Jean-Claude de Lévis renovated the fortifications and restored the castle. He was also responsible for the construction of the stone staircase.
Uninhabited for many years during the 18th century and then left abandoned for almost one hundred years, the castle was finally totally restored in the 19th century by Adrien-Charles Dutch of Mirepoix and Great of Spain. The ancient hunting manor of the Count of Foix, a 16th century domain. It has a large gallery of weapons with a grand fireplace and a Louis XIII staircase which are classified as national monuments.
The Park:As well as the charm of the actual castle, there are 4 hectares of gardens and forest to explore, stroll in, sit and read in or simply ….. relax.
Léran: You need to cross Léran to reach the castle. The history of Léran from the XII century onwards is closely linked to the Lévis-Mirepoix family. The main street, le cour de Saint-Jacques, is very pleasant, especially in summer, because of the shade of its centuries old plane trees. Its narrow streets and alleyways reminders of its mediaeval past. At the church, relatively recently built in 1869, you can admire a statue of Christ, two ancient altars and a wooden crucifixion.
Montbel Lake:Near the village of Léran, 1.5 Km away, there is the 570 hectare Lake Montbel an ideal place for swimming, sailing or fishing. Surrounded by a forest, it is the main dam in the south-west region and irrigates 28,000 hectares of farming land.
ROOMS: ZEN Bedroom-Suite: A self-contained bedroom (70 sq m.) occupying the whole top floor. Its high, sloping roof features splendid, wooden supports that give the room a special charm. There is an excellent view of the park and a wide, panoramic view of the area from its windows. It has a queen-size bed (160x200) and a sofa bed (150). The en-suite bathroom has a bath, shower and toilet. There is a large living room with TV, DVD, and dining table and chairs. SUN Bedroom: (40 sq. m.) It contains 2 single beds (90) and a double bed (140) which can also be used as a sofa. Its windows open on the castle's central courtyard and give views of the beautiful countryside. The colour scheme and antique furniture create a warm and cosy ambience. There is an en-suite with a large bath, hand basin and toilet. MOON Bedroom: (20 sq m.), with a double bed (140). It is neatly decorated with white furnishings contrasting with the purple colour of the room which gives this room a character of its own, an intimate and pleasant atmosphere. The en-suite has shower cabinet, toilet and hand basin. LIVING ROOM: 25 sq. m., TV, DVD and CD player. DINING ROOM: 20 sq. m. KITCHEN: It is 10 sq. m. Fully equipped with: a complete set of pots and pans, stove, oven, extractor fan, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, clothes dryer, vacuum cleaner, iron and board. SUMMER DINING ROOM: 30 sq. m. PATIO: 80 sq. m. Outdoor garden furniture. |
